THe song is perhaps a communication between the heart and the mind. It is the heart (of a person who is turning spiritual and is seeking for god) which is asking the mind as to what happened to your desires of worldly/materialistic things? Why are you leaving these luxuries of life and listening to your spiritual conscience which had been quiet so far. What has propelled you to do so?

Can someone help me understand this:
sapta sagaradaache yello
supta sagara kaadide
moLeyadalegaLa mooka marmara
indu illigu haayite

(especially, "moLeyadalegaLa mooka marmara").

My apologies for the ignorance.. though I grew up in Bangalore and speak kannada at home, some of the words in the poem sound unfamiliar to me..

Secondly, can someone please tell me what the motivation was for the poet when he wrote this song?
Thanks very much..

I have now head this song in 4 different tunes.. Each one is unique in its own way and each one has a different emotion attached to it.. The latest i heard was just one paragraph,usually unheard of in the popular versions. I had heard this in 'endu mareyada haadu' hosted by Ravi Belagere in ETV. Sung by Divya Raghavan, it is just very beautiful. Does any one have that version onf the song? I unfortunately could not record it..

Beyond Seven Seas, yonder
Sleeping Sea awaits
Mute whispers of waves never risen
Sailed hither now, oh, did they?
--
something like that...

ಸುಪ್ತ = sleeping
ಮೊಳೆ = germinate, rise or shoot from ground (or sea, here)
ಮೂಕ =mute, silent
ಮರ್ಮರ = whisper

In the second stanza, Shri Adiga says,
Someone asked me the meaning of the last line here;
ಕರಣ = action, senses, etc.
In this context, ಕರಣ=senses; ಕರಣಗ್ರಾಮ = collection of senses = human body
and ಕರಣಗಣ also means the same thing, a collection of senses = human body
ರಿಂಗಣ = dance;
"In this fenced garden of desires,
the human form, dances about"

Cheers,
Jayant M Naik

Why do people use capital letters in between small letters while writing Kannada words in English?
